'Miscarriage not dark secret to hide' says Klass as she becomes MBE

Myleene Klass, a well-known musician and television presenter, has bravely opened up about her experiences with miscarriage, having suffered through four heartbreaking losses. Recently, she was honored with an MBE, which stands for Member of the Order of the British Empire, for her significant contributions to women's health, raising awareness about miscarriage, and her charitable work. Myleene expressed her surprise and pride upon receiving this recognition, stating that she feels honored to be a voice for other women who have faced similar challenges. Reflecting on her journey, she remarked, 'When I think back to how all of this started, it all came from a very dark place. ' This statement highlights the emotional toll that her experiences have taken on her, yet she has transformed her pain into a powerful advocacy for change. Myleene has been actively campaigning for improvements in miscarriage care, particularly advocating for changes to the Women's Health Strategy in Parliament. She believes that women should not have to endure multiple miscarriages before receiving the necessary support. 'If you suffered three heart attacks you wouldn't only be offered support after the third one,' she pointed out, emphasizing the need for immediate assistance for women experiencing baby loss. Myleene's efforts have contributed to new measures announced by the Department of Health and Social Care, which aim to enhance the health and well-being of women and girls, including a pilot program that provides medical intervention after every miscarriage. Myleene feels a strong responsibility to advocate for these changes, stating, 'Decisions are being made sitting on those green leather chairs by people who don't even experience what many of the population go through. ' In 2021, Myleene also produced a Bafta-nominated documentary titled 'Myleene Klass: Miscarriage And Me,' where she candidly shared her story. She admitted that it was challenging for her to even say the word 'miscarriage' initially, as the pain was still fresh. However, she recognized the importance of discussing her trauma to help others who may be suffering in silence. 'It never gets easier,' she said, 'but it also keeps me connected to what happened and the babies I lost. ' Myleene included her husband and children in the documentary because she understands that miscarriage impacts the entire family. 'My kids thought they were getting a sibling, so when you have a miscarriage, you're not only mopping up your own sadness, but theirs too. ' Myleene is determined to break the stigma surrounding miscarriage, stating, 'No one wants to talk about dead babies, so women are left to deal with issues of baby loss and fertility alone, and that needs to change. ' In addition to her advocacy work, Myleene has authored several books on parenting and family life, including her latest publication, 'They Don't Teach This At School. ' She has also been an ambassador for Save the Children for over a decade. Myleene shared that the moment she received the letter informing her of her MBE appointment was very special, as it happened in the kitchen with her children. 'I feel proud knowing that I've used my platform not to stand by idly but to do something positive,' she said. Myleene is committed to continuing her campaign until every woman and family receives the support they need after experiencing a miscarriage.
