Hotel set to install hundreds of solar panels

The Tawny hotel, located in Consall, Staffordshire, is set to embark on an exciting new project that involves the installation of nearly 900 solar panels. The hotel management has expressed confidence that the solar panels will generate enough renewable energy to meet the electricity needs of the entire estate, which includes the hotel itself, a wedding venue, and camping pods. To ensure that the solar panels are not visible from nearby homes, the hotel will also plant hedges around the solar farm. Local planning officers have noted that the environmental advantages of this project are significant, particularly in a time when there is a growing demand for sustainable energy sources. The solar panels will be installed in a field adjacent to the hotel's car park, and a battery storage facility will also be built in a service yard. According to the application submitted by the hotel, the solar panels are expected to save approximately 50 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, which is equivalent to planting 2,282 trees. Sheila Penfold, a local resident whose home overlooks the estate, has voiced her support for the solar panel project. She stated, 'The Tawny is not a sustainable development, and we would support any improvement in their environmental performance. ' The planning committee from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has welcomed the proposal, describing the solar farm as a 'massive improvement' over the noisy diesel generator that was previously used. Councillor Keith Hoptroff expressed his full support for the project, stating, 'I'd like to see more businesses do similar projects to this. ' He believes that the solar farm will help reduce the need for large-scale solar farms, which often come with their own set of controversies.
