Metal Band's Gear Drive: Rocking Music Access for All This Christmas!

The Newcastle-based heavy metal band Pigsx7 is making a heartfelt appeal to the public for unused musical instruments and equipment. Their goal is to collect these items and donate them to families who might not be able to afford them, especially as Christmas approaches. The band, which consists of five members, has been together for over 14 years and has seen firsthand how expensive it can be to get started in music. They believe that many people in the north-east of England are missing out on the chance to play music because the costs are simply too high.

Guitarist Adam Sykes explained that the price of instruments, renting rehearsal spaces, and booking recording studios creates a huge barrier for aspiring musicians. He said that these costs are 'insane' and prevent many talented people from pursuing their passion. Vocalist Matt Baty added that a lot of successful musicians were able to make it because they had the financial support to help their careers. For families who are struggling to pay for basic needs like food, music and other creative activities often get pushed aside. Baty said it is unfortunate that so many people are cut off from music and the arts because of economic challenges. He believes that society needs voices and experiences from all backgrounds, but right now, those voices are being marginalized.

So far, the band has received donations of guitars and pedals, and they have leads on a saxophone and DJ decks. However, they are hoping for much more. Matt Baty mentioned that he has shelves full of guitar effects pedals that he has not used in years, and he would rather see them go to someone who will appreciate and use them. The band is asking people to contact them by email if they want to donate, and they can arrange to collect the items. Alternatively, donations can be dropped off at The Cluny in Ouseburn after discussing it with the band. All equipment will be safety tested before being given to a local charity.

Adam Sykes said that the band's success has been due to a lot of luck, and after 14 years together, they have toured the world and released six albums. He said that playing music is incredible, whether it is in a rehearsal room, a pub, or on stage in America. The feeling is always the same, and he hopes that this project will allow more people to experience it. Both Sykes and Baty encouraged everyone to donate what they can, even small items like effects pedals. They believe that every donation can make a difference and inspire someone to start their own musical journey.
