Gloucestershire Council Taps AI in £3.4M Bid to Slash Costs and Boost Efficiency

Gloucestershire County Council is planning to spend £3. 4 million on a project called Stronger Futures, which aims to modernise the way the council works. A big part of this plan is to use artificial intelligence, or AI, and other digital tools to help the council save money, reduce waste, and improve the services it provides to local people. Colin Hay, the deputy leader of the council, announced the plan and said they do not want to wait until financial problems force them to make tough decisions. Not everyone agrees with the plan. Vernon Smith, who leads the Reform group, said he does not think the council needs to spend more money in order to save money. Smith said the Liberal Democrats, who are in charge of the council, want to spend a lot of money now and only promise to save some of it later. He is worried that this plan might not really help people in the end.

Other councillors have also shared their thoughts. Gary Luff from the Green Party said that the details of the plan are very important. He wants to make sure that the council uses AI in a responsible way and that there are clear rules about how it will be used. Stephen Davies, the leader of the Conservative group, said he finds it both disappointing and funny that the Liberal Democrats are bringing back ideas that the Conservatives already tried when they were in charge. The council says that Stronger Futures is about making the council more efficient and making sure people get good value for their money. They want to hear from local people about what matters most to them and what stories they think the council should focus on.
