Humber Street Sesh: Hull’s Ultimate Music Bash with 100+ Acts and More!

Humber Street Sesh is Hull's biggest one-day music festival, taking place at Hull Marina and featuring more than 100 acts across 10 stages. Every year, thousands of music fans gather to enjoy performances from both local and international artists. This year, the headline act is singer-songwriter Fiona-Lee, who has been featured on BBC Radio 1's Future Artists show. Other performers include Walt Disco, The Kairos, Flat Moon, Gravy, and The Family Battenberg. Since its beginning in 2012, Humber Street Sesh has grown into a major event that highlights the talents of grassroots and local musicians.

Mark Page, the festival's founding director, says Humber Street Sesh is much more than just a day of live music. He believes the festival is an important part of the region's music scene, giving new artists a chance to perform and be noticed. The event also creates jobs for hundreds of local people and brings thousands of visitors to Hull. According to Page, the festival celebrates Hull's creativity, independence, and community spirit, while also providing real social and economic benefits for the city and East Yorkshire. Organizers say that more than 500 local people are employed to help run the festival, and independent reports estimate its wider social impact to be around one million pounds.

Earlier this year, the festival almost had to close because of financial problems. However, it now operates as a community interest company, which means all money from funding, donations, and sponsorship is put back into the local community and grassroots music projects. Mark Page hopes this new structure will keep the festival connected to the community and support Hull's goal of becoming a UNESCO City of Music. In addition to live music, the festival offers a silent disco, hip-hop karaoke, street food, art, and dance. Many artists who have performed at Humber Street Sesh, such as the punk band Life and rapper Chiedu Oraka, have gone on to gain national radio coverage and play at international festivals. The festival is a celebration of music, creativity, and community, making it a highlight of the year for Hull and its people.
