Wildlife 'orphan season' leads to charity plea

In Norfolk, the RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre is experiencing a significant increase in the number of orphaned animals needing care. This time of year is often referred to as 'orphan season,' and the centre is currently looking after a variety of young wildlife. They have around 120 ducklings, 15 baby owls, 20 gull chicks, and 20 seal pups. The centre manager, Evangelos Achilleos, described the situation as feeling like a busy daycare for animals, with many extra mouths to feed. He explained that the staff are working hard to provide for all these young creatures. Mr. Achilleos mentioned that the centre is using a large number of towels and blankets to keep the baby animals warm and comfortable. He expressed gratitude to the community for their past support and is now asking for donations of unwanted linens. The centre is in need of these items to help care for the many baby animals that have come in. He noted that the staff are facing a real challenge with so many extra animals to look after, but they are always uplifted by the generosity of the people who help. Caring for so many young animals can be exhausting for the staff, but it also brings them joy to see the animals thrive. Mr. Achilleos encouraged anyone who finds a young animal to check the centre's website for guidance on whether to bring the animal in or leave it where it is.
