OpenAI Urges Companies to Test 4-Day Workweeks in the AI Revolution

The company believes that as AI tools get better and faster, they will change the way people work and the kinds of jobs that are available. OpenAI’s new policy ideas, which focus mainly on the United States, suggest that companies should try out shorter work weeks without cutting pay. They also recommend that businesses offer better benefits, like more retirement savings, more help with healthcare costs, and support for childcare.

In their report called Industrial Policy for the Intelligence Age, OpenAI explains that AI is now able to do some tasks much faster than humans. For example, projects that used to take months could soon be finished in just days. This could mean that some jobs will disappear, but it could also create new jobs, especially in areas where people work directly with others, like teaching, healthcare, and childcare. OpenAI says that companies should be rewarded for finding ways to improve workers’ lives, such as by giving them more time off or better benefits. They also suggest that a public wealth fund could be created, so that everyone can benefit from the money made by AI.

Some experts, like Professor Gina Neff from the University of Cambridge, say that the idea of sharing the benefits of new technology with workers is not new.
