Gallop Into Art: Free Exhibition Celebrates Stunning Horse Masterpieces
A new and free art exhibition is opening soon in Newmarket, a town well-known for its horse racing history. The exhibition is called We Give You The Horse and will be held at the National Horseracing Museum from April 29 to May 21. This special event will feature a variety of equine artwork, including paintings and sculptures by top artists from the Society of Equestrian Artists. Some of the artists whose work will be displayed include Lisa Miller and Kieron Williamson. Visitors will also have the chance to buy some of the artwork if they wish.
Anthea Wood, the chair of the Society of Equestrian Artists, said that the National Horseracing Museum is very important for promoting horse art. She is originally from Newmarket and always enjoys coming back to visit the museum and Palace House, which is also known for supporting equestrian art. Tracey Harding, the chief operating officer of the museum, said she is delighted to host the exhibition. She explained that the event is a great opportunity for people to see amazing horse art and also take part in creative activities like workshops and painting demonstrations.
One of the highlights of the exhibition will be an original painting by Sir Alfred Munnings, a famous equine artist from Suffolk. Sir Alfred was born in 1878 and became the president of the Royal Academy of Arts in the 1940s. His painting is being loaned from the Munnings Art Museum in Essex for this event. The exhibition will be held in the Moller Gallery, and there will be a program of art masterclasses and workshops for visitors to enjoy. Newmarket is known as the historic home of horse racing and has the only public stud yard in the country. The museum and this exhibition help keep the tradition of horse art alive and give people a chance to learn more about the connection between horses and art.
