Israel-Gaza war: Iran warns of new fronts against US if conflict persists

Iran's foreign minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, issued a stern warning, stating that if the United States continues its unwavering support for Israel, it could lead to the opening of new fronts against the US. This statement has heightened fears that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas could escalate into a broader regional war. Amirabdollahian refrained from specifying the potential repercussions Iran might impose. He refuted claims that Iran had directed groups in Syria and Iraq to target US forces recently, asserting that it was Washington, not Tehran, that was escalating the violence following an attack by Hamas militants on Israel that resulted in approximately 1,400 casualties. Israel retaliated with severe air strikes.

Amirabdollahian criticized the US for advising others to exercise restraint while fully siding with Israel. He warned that if the US persists in its current course of action, it could lead to the opening of new fronts against it. He expressed grave concern over the ongoing violence in Gaza, particularly the killing of women and children, warning that the situation could spiral out of control in the region. He urged the US to decide whether it truly wishes to escalate the conflict.

The foreign minister's comments came shortly after the US announced that it had conducted military strikes on two Syrian facilities associated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which had been implicated in attacks against US troops in the region. US officials stated that while they lack concrete evidence that Iran directly ordered these attacks, they hold Iran accountable due to its support for the groups that executed them. Amirabdollahian insisted that the groups attacking US forces in Syria and Iraq are acting independently and have not received directives from Tehran.
