Lucy Sparrow is a British artist who has created a unique and imaginative chip shop, but this one is unlike any other. Instead of serving real food, every single item in the shop is made from felt, a soft and colorful fabric. Lucy hand-stitched everything herself, from the fish and chips to the boxes, bottles of vinegar and mayonnaise, ketchup packets, and even the signs and menus. In total, she crafted an incredible 65,000 individual pieces, including 15 different shapes of chips in five different colors.

The chip shop, called the Bourdon Street Chippy, is meant to bring back memories of traditional British chip shops. Lucy wanted to create a place that feels nostalgic and fun, where people can touch and interact with the soft felt food. She has a history of making life-sized felt versions of everyday places, such as corner shops, supermarkets, New York bodegas, and pharmacies. Her work is both playful and detailed, inviting visitors to experience familiar places in a new and creative way.

The Bourdon Street Chippy is on display at the Lyndsey Ingram Gallery in Mayfair, central London. The exhibition is free to visit and will be open for six weeks, starting at the beginning of August. Lucy has shared that her relationship with food has always influenced her art. She has struggled with anorexia since her teenage years, and she says that making art has helped her manage her emotions and stay healthy. The gallery owner, Ingram, described Lucy as one of the most important artists of her generation, noting how she blurs the lines between performance and installation art. Visitors can see the felt chip shop from Wednesday to Sunday each week, as well as on Bank Holiday Monday in August. Lucy hopes her work will bring joy and spark memories for everyone who visits.
