Alicia Woolley, a final year fine art student at Liverpool John Moores University, has created a stunning series of murals that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Liverpool. These murals have been unveiled on the top floor of the St Johns Shopping Centre car park, covering an area roughly the size of a tennis court. The artwork is a vibrant digital collage that features iconic figures and landmarks from the city, including The Beatles, Cilla Black, and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, a double world champion heptathlete. The murals also showcase Liverpool's famous architecture, such as the Three Graces, Chinatown, St Johns Beacon, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Royal Albert Dock. The colors of Liverpool and Everton football clubs are woven into the designs, highlighting the city's strong sporting culture. Alicia explained that Liverpool has a powerful identity shaped by its music, humor, and people, and she hopes her murals will encourage viewers to pause, look up, and feel joy in their day. The murals stand 5 feet high and stretch 475 feet along the wall, making a bold visual statement in the city. The unveiling event was attended by over 60 guests, including the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Richard Kemp CBE, as well as Alicia's family and friends. Originally from Altrincham in Greater Manchester, Alicia was supported by a Discovery Internship from her university, a program designed to help students gain employability skills and career insight by working with local organizations in the Liverpool City Region. This opportunity allowed her to connect with the community and create a piece of public art that honors Liverpool's vibrant culture and history. The murals are not only a tribute to the city's past and present but also a source of inspiration and pride for its residents and visitors alike.
