Kids Spin Beats and Sing Hits in a Cool Mobile DJ Van!
At Redfield Educate Together Primary Academy in Bristol, students recently enjoyed a unique experience when a converted police van arrived at their school. This van, which used to be a police vehicle, has been transformed into a mobile DJ studio by the Bristol charity Tread. The charity's goal is to bring music workshops to young people across the South West, especially those who might not have many chances to try music activities. The Year 6 students, many of whom have additional needs, were invited to sing along to their favorite pop songs, experiment with professional DJ equipment, and even dress up as rock stars. The event was designed to be fun and to help the children celebrate finishing their exams before moving on to secondary school.
Izzy Cross, one of the founders of Tread, explained that music can be a powerful way for children to express themselves and connect with others. She said that because of funding cuts, many schools have had to reduce or even stop their art and music programs. Tread was created to help fill this gap by bringing music directly to students. 'Music is the most amazing outlet,' Izzy said. 'Getting involved with people, creating a community through music is the way forward. ' She hopes that by giving children the chance to try DJing and singing, they will become more curious about music and want to learn new skills.
The event was a big success, with students like Myla saying, 'I was singing some songs and it was really fun because we pretended to be DJing. I love singing, music, all that stuff. ' The head teacher, Scott Freeman, said that experiences like this are important because they give students opportunities they might not have otherwise. He added, 'They worked really hard to get through their exams and have come together really well. It's nice to celebrate that hard work with an experience like this. ' With support from the National Lottery and other music charities, Tread hopes to bring their mobile DJ studio to thousands of children over the summer, helping more young people discover the joy of music and creativity.
