Trombone Star Toby Joins National Youth Orchestra's Shimmer Tour!

Toby, a 17-year-old trombonist from East Yorkshire, has achieved something special by earning a spot in the National Youth Orchestra. For seven years, Toby has been part of East Riding's Music Service, playing in the Senior Wind Band and developing his musical skills. He expressed his excitement about joining the orchestra, saying he is thrilled to be part of such a well-known group and to connect with other young musicians who share his passion for music.

The National Youth Orchestra is preparing for its Shimmer tour, which will take place in January. During this tour, Toby and his fellow musicians will perform live concerts in major cities like London, Coventry, and Nottingham. Toby explained that the orchestra is dedicated to pushing their musical talents as far as possible and hopes to inspire other teenagers. They plan to perform in some of the country's most famous venues, bring orchestral music to secondary schools, and lead workshops in local primary schools. Toby believes that by sharing their love of music, they can encourage other young people to get involved and see the value of music in their lives.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, who works with children and families at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, shared her pride in Toby's accomplishment. She noted that Toby's selection was impressive, given the tough competition from young musicians across the country. The council's music service aims to give every child the chance to learn a musical instrument and offers high-quality music education both inside and outside of school. Toby's journey highlights the importance of supporting young musicians and shows how music can inspire and unite people of all ages.
