200 Pianists Unite for Epic 11-Hour World Record Concert in Sunderland!

Sunderland Music City is organizing an ambitious event next month, aiming to gather nearly 200 pianists for a marathon concert that could set a new world record. The plan is for each pianist to perform a short piece, lasting between three and five minutes, before passing the piano to the next participant. This relay of music will continue for 11 hours straight, creating a unique and continuous musical experience. Three representatives from Sunderland Music City recently met around the brown grand piano that will be used for the concert, highlighting the excitement and preparation underway.

Michelle Daurant, the CEO of Sunderland Music City, explained that the 'Keys of the City' event is open to everyone, from beginners to experienced concert pianists. She emphasized that Sunderland is a city with a strong musical tradition, and this event is designed to unite the community through the power of music. Daurant said, 'We want to show how creativity can bring people together and help children who need our support. ' The organization is encouraging schools, businesses, and community groups to form teams and participate, hoping that the event will make history for Sunderland.

In addition to attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most pianists playing in a relay, the concert will raise money for Love, Amelia, a local charity that supports families living in poverty. A large check for £51,955 was presented to Love, Amelia from Sunderland Music City, symbolizing the commitment to helping those in need. The current world record stands at 169 pianists, set in Hong Kong earlier this year, and Sunderland Music City hopes to surpass that number. Interested musicians are invited to apply in teams of four, representing their school, business, or group of friends or family. The concert will take place at The Fire Station on High Street West, running from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM on December 7. Applications are open until noon on November 26, giving musicians across Sunderland a chance to be part of this historic event.
