Diving Into Art: Pool Transforms Into Marine Life Studio Splash!

Rosanne Guille, an artist from Guernsey, has found a unique place to create her artwork. Instead of using a regular studio, she has turned an empty swimming pool into her creative space. At first, Rosanne only used the pool to store her art supplies, but over time, she started using the whole area to make her art. She calls it her 'deep end studio' because she works at the deep end of the pool. Rosanne enjoys working there because it is underground and feels very private and peaceful, almost like her own secret hideaway.

Rosanne's current project focuses on people who are connected to the sea, especially those who work in the fishing industry. She is making portraits of chefs, scavengers, and fishmongers from the islands of Sark and Guernsey. One of her paintings features a fisherman named Jordan de Carteret. Jordan used to catch crabs and lobsters, but because the fishing industry is changing, he now catches octopus instead. Rosanne believes it is important to capture these changes in her art, as they show how people are adapting to new challenges in their work.

The inspiration for this project came from a trip Rosanne took to Alaska last year. She visited a fishing town and saw how closely the people there were connected to the sea. This experience made her want to tell the stories of people from her own community who also rely on the ocean. Rosanne's artwork will be displayed in an exhibition at Saumarez Park from July 7 until the end of the month. She hopes that visitors will come to see her paintings and learn more about the lives of those who work with marine life. Through her art, Rosanne wants to highlight the important role that the sea plays in the lives of islanders and the challenges they face as things change.
