From Kennels to Canvases: Lowood's Art Gallery Revival Plan

Jeremy Latimer has submitted a proposal to transform a workshop at Lowood Kennels, located near Armathwaite in Cumbria, into an art gallery. The site is reached by a narrow path bordered by trees and grassy areas, with a blue sign marking 'Lowood Kennels & Cattery. ' At the end of the drive, the building is visible, and dense woodland lies to one side.

Latimer's plan is to revive the Lowood Arts 2001 project, which previously operated at this location. The arts organization was quite successful before it closed in 2009 due to family commitments. According to a supporting statement, Lowood Arts won 35 national awards and held four sold-out exhibitions during its years of operation. Artworks created at Lowood have since been included in collections around the world, showing the impact the organization had.

The new proposal suggests that the art gallery would share access with the existing kennels, just as it did from 2002 to 2009. The gallery aims to highlight Cumbria's most significant artists and showcase the influence of Cumbrian art globally. Cumberland Council will review the plan to decide whether the transformation can move forward. The project hopes to restore the Lowood gallery, which has been closed for 16 years, and bring art back to the local community.
