German doctor charged with murder of 15 patients

On one day in July 2024, he is accused of killing two patients: a 75-year-old man in central Berlin and a 76-year-old woman in a nearby area just hours later. Prosecutors reported that the doctor attempted to set fire to the woman's apartment but was unsuccessful. When he realized the fire did not start, he allegedly contacted a relative of the woman, claiming he was outside her apartment and that no one was responding to his calls. Initially, the doctor was suspected of killing four patients when he was arrested in August 2024, but further investigations have uncovered additional suspicious deaths. Authorities are seeking a lifelong professional ban and preventative detention for the suspect, who remains in custody.
