Accuser drops rape lawsuit against Jay-Z and Sean Combs

A lawsuit that accused Sean 'Diddy' Combs and Jay-Z of a serious crime has been dismissed. This lawsuit claimed that they had assaulted a 13-year-old girl back in the year 2000. The news about the dismissal came from a legal document that was filed on Friday in New York. The attorney representing the anonymous plaintiff, known as Jane Doe, voluntarily withdrew the case, as indicated by court records. The lawyer, Tony Buzbee, is also involved in other lawsuits where multiple plaintiffs are accusing Mr. Combs of sexual misconduct. The legal filing stated that the plaintiff 'hereby gives notice that the. action is voluntarily dismissed, with prejudice'. This means that the lawsuit cannot be filed again in its current form. Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, released a statement regarding the dismissal, which Jay-Z signed. He referred to the dismissal as a 'victory'. In his statement, he said, 'The frivolous, fictitious and appalling allegations have been dismissed. ' He further explained that the civil suit was without merit and would not have progressed. Jay-Z expressed the emotional toll that he and his family have experienced due to these allegations, stating, 'The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed. ' He emphasized the importance of protecting innocent individuals from being falsely accused without any evidence. He hopes that the truth will come out for all victims and for those who have been wrongfully accused. Jay-Z's attorney, Alex Spiro, also made a statement, emphasizing that the case 'never should have been brought'. He praised Jay-Z for standing firm against these serious and false allegations, stating, 'By standing up in the face of heinous and false allegations, Jay has done what few can – he pushed back, he never settled, he never paid 1 red penny, he triumphed and cleared his name. ' Jane Doe initially filed the lawsuit against Mr. Combs in October and later added Jay-Z's name in December. She alleged that both men assaulted her after an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000. Jay-Z strongly denied the allegations, claiming that his attorney had received 'blackmail' attempts aimed at forcing a settlement. He stated that this attempt had the 'opposite effect' and motivated him to publicly challenge the accusations. In December, Jane Doe gave an interview that raised doubts about her credibility. She admitted that 'not all the facts are clear' and acknowledged, 'I have made some mistakes. I may have made a mistake in identifying. ' This led to questions about the consistency of her account. The request to dismiss the case was approved by United States District Judge Analisa Torres, resulting in the lawsuit's dismissal. While Jay-Z is no longer facing legal action in this case, Mr. Combs continues to deal with over three dozen civil suits. In response to the dismissal, Mr. Combs' legal team issued a statement asserting his innocence. They stated, 'For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by an attorney more focused on media headlines than legal merit. Just like this claim, the others will fall apart because there is no truth to them. ' They added, 'This is just the first of many that will not hold up in a court of law. ' Mr. Combs has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, since September 2024 on federal criminal charges related to racketeering and sex trafficking. He has been denied bail three times and will remain in custody until his trial on May 5, 2025.
