Bergerac reboot rights sold to nine countries

The rights to the rebooted version of the classic TV show Bergerac have been sold to nine different countries before it even premieres in the UK. This exciting news was shared by the tourism board of Jersey, known as Visit Jersey. The new series, which was filmed in Jersey in 2024, is expected to help the local government recover some of the costs associated with the production. They will receive a commission of 12. 5% from the international sales of the show. This reboot is a modern take on the beloved 1980s BBC detective drama that originally starred John Nettles and was also set in the picturesque island of Jersey. Ben Bickerton, a representative from the production company BlackLight TV, expressed his enthusiasm for the new series, stating that it will not only please fans of the original show but also introduce the character of Bergerac and the stunning scenery of Jersey to a whole new audience around the globe. The filming locations included various spots in St Helier, the capital of Jersey, where the film crew was seen working diligently. Members of the public and local police observed the filming process, which included an actor walking down a busy shopping street, accompanied by a team of crew members, including a camera operator on horseback. The distribution company, Banijay Rights, announced that the show has been purchased by television stations in seven northern European countries, such as the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden, as well as in New Zealand and Australia. Visit Jersey is currently in discussions with additional TV stations in other countries to expand the show's reach even further. While the original Bergerac aired on BBC One, the reboot will be broadcast on UKTV, with the first episode set to premiere on February 27, 2025. The new series features Damian Moloney in the lead role of Jim Bergerac, alongside talented actors Zoë Wanamaker and Philip Glenister. A promotional image showcasing the cast against a beautiful backdrop of sun, sky, clouds, and sea has been released, generating excitement among fans.
