Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, has become famous for its Christmas market, known as Zagreb Advent. This festive event has been voted the best Christmas market in Europe for three years in a row, and it is helping the city attract more tourists during the winter months. Traditionally, most people think of Croatia as a summer destination, with its beautiful Adriatic coastline drawing visitors from all over the world. However, the Croatian government and tourism officials are working hard to change this image and encourage people to visit throughout the year.

Zagreb Advent is not just a single market in one location. Instead, it is a city-wide celebration that takes over many parts of the city center. For example, Cologne's market is expected to bring in an economic impact of 229 million euros. Still, Zagreb is quickly gaining a reputation as a must-visit destination for Christmas market lovers. People from all over Europe, including Italy, Spain, Bosnia, Slovenia, and the UK, are coming to experience the festive atmosphere.

Tourism experts say that Zagreb Advent has helped increase the number of overnight stays in the city during December, which is usually a quiet time for tourism in Croatia. However, they also warn that the country still relies too much on summer visitors. They suggest that Croatia should develop more events and attractions during other parts of the year, such as food festivals, carnivals, and sports events. The tourism minister agrees, saying that Croatia is working to become a year-round destination. He points out that while summer visitor numbers have stayed about the same, there has been growth in the number of tourists coming in June, September, and December.
