Del Boy's Iconic Bar Sells for a Whopping £22K at Auction!

Del Boy's cocktail bar, a memorable prop from the beloved BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, was sold at auction for a remarkable £22,000 in the West Midlands. The sitcom, which ran from 1981 to 2003, featured the bar in the Trotter family's Peckham flat, where Del Boy, played by David Jason, would often be seen enjoying cigars and entertaining guests. The bar is easily recognized by fans for its cream vinyl padding and marble top, and it became a symbol of Del Boy's entrepreneurial spirit and love for the finer things in life.

The bar was made by the Italian company Mascagni Mobili and stands just over a meter tall. It was originally purchased in 1992 from the show's prop coordinator after the production moved from London to Bristol. Before the auction, experts estimated the bar would sell for between £500 and £600, but its connection to the iconic sitcom drove the price much higher. Rachel Holland, a music and entertainment specialist at Fieldings Auctioneers, explained that the bar is more than just furniture; it is a piece of television history. She noted that items with such clear provenance from Only Fools and Horses are rare, and collectors were eager to own a part of the show.

The auction also featured other notable items, including a pinstriped suit owned by Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, which sold for £6,500. The suit was tailored by John Robinson from Redditch and included a handwritten label inside the pocket. The event attracted fans of both television and music, highlighting the lasting impact of Only Fools and Horses and its characters. Del Boy, with his sheepskin coat and catchphrases like 'cushty,' remains a cultural icon in Britain, and the sale of his bar shows how much people still cherish the memories from the show.
