From Pitch to Podium: Football Co-Owner Scores Best Actor Oscar!

Michael B Jordan, who is not only a famous actor but also a co-owner of the football club AFC Bournemouth, has won the Oscar for best actor for his performance in the film Sinners. In the movie, Jordan played twin brothers named Smoke and Stack, who are characters in a vampire horror story. Jordan, who has short dark hair, a moustache, and a beard, was seen smiling widely as he held his golden Academy Award. He wore a dark buttoned jacket and stood in front of a wall with the word Oscars printed in large letters. Jordan became a minority owner of AFC Bournemouth in December 2022, joining a group led by American businessman Bill Foley. He has spoken before about his excitement for being involved with the football club, saying he saw a team with a lot of potential and growth and that he loved their story and history.

The Oscars ceremony also recognized the work of several people with connections to Dorset, especially graduates from Bournemouth University. These graduates contributed to several films that were honored at the event. For example, Avatar: Fire and Ash won the award for best visual effects, and KPop Demon Hunters won both best animated feature and best original song. During the ceremony, the team behind KPop Demon Hunters went on stage to accept the award for best original song. EJAE, a young woman with dark hair, wore a white dress with gold markings and spoke into the microphone while holding the Oscar. The rest of the group, all men in tuxedos, stood around her.

Fernando Morillo, who graduated from Bournemouth University in 2014 with a master's degree in visual effects, worked as a senior effects technical director at Sony Pictures Imageworks on KPop Demon Hunters. Morillo said he was surprised to see so many people from Bournemouth working in the film industry in different countries, including London, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Another Bournemouth graduate, Stephen Cullingford, was part of the team at Weta FX that worked on Avatar: Fire and Ash. He said it was great to see so many Bournemouth University graduates contributing to major projects in visual effects. Other alumni, Paolo Mercogliano and Lasma Zeimule-Kay, worked on Sinners, the film that brought Michael B Jordan his Oscar win. Jordan has expressed his enthusiasm for being part of AFC Bournemouth, saying he loves the team's history and is excited to help bring new energy and stories to the club alongside Bill Foley.
