Hull's Big Malarkey Festival: Mystery, Magic, and Books Await Kids!

The Big Malarkey Festival is making its return to Hull this June, bringing excitement and creativity to children and families across the city. Taking place at East Park, the festival will run its main events on the twentieth and twenty-first of June, but the celebrations actually begin earlier in the month. This year marks the ninth time the festival has been held, and it has become a much-loved tradition for many people in Hull. The theme for this year is 'It's a Mystery,' which means there will be lots of activities focused on solving puzzles, wearing disguises, and discovering some of Hull's most interesting secrets. The festival was first started in 2017, during Hull's year as the UK City of Culture. Since then, it has grown every year, attracting more visitors and offering even more activities. This year, the festival will begin with the James Reckitt Reading Conference on the fifteenth of June, followed by a week of special activities for schools. One of the highlights is the James Reckitt Hull Children's Book Awards, where children aged seven to eleven can meet authors and vote for their favorite book in a live event. This gives young readers a chance to have their voices heard and to celebrate the books they love.

During the main festival weekend, the popular Hook-a-Book stall will be back, giving away free books to everyone who attends. This is a great way to encourage children to read more and to discover new stories. Tickets for the festival can be bought online or at any Hull Library, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
