Join the Ultimate Piano Relay and Smash a World Record in Sunderland!
Sunderland is getting ready for a special music event that could break a world record, and local pianists of all skill levels are invited to take part. The event, called Keys of the City, is organized by Sunderland Music City and aims to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people playing the same piano in a relay. The current record is 169 pianists, set in Hong Kong earlier this year, but Sunderland hopes to beat it by gathering nearly 200 participants.
Michelle Daurat, the CEO of Sunderland Music City, says organizing such a large concert is quite complicated, but she encourages schools, businesses, and groups of friends or families to sign up. You do not need to be a professional pianist to join; even beginners are welcome as long as they can play a tune for three to five minutes. Teams of four must register, and each team will be given a 15-minute slot to perform. There are strict rules to follow, including making sure a performer's hands are always on the piano keys, even when switching between team members.
The record attempt will take place at The Fire Station in Sunderland, starting at 8:00 AM on December 7th. Participants must sign up by November 26th. The event is free, but everyone is encouraged to raise sponsorship money for the Music Against Child Poverty Campaign. Last year, this campaign raised almost £52,000 for Love, Amelia, a charity that supports families living in poverty. Michelle Daurat says the event is about using music to unite Sunderland, show the power of creativity, and help children who need support.
