From Exams to Stardom: Teen Beats 300,000 to Join Cheetah Girls Revival!

Sophie Lennon, a 16-year-old from County Down, Northern Ireland, has just achieved something incredible: she is one of the four new stars of Disney's Cheetah Girls. The Cheetah Girls was a very popular musical movie series in the 2000s, and now Disney is bringing it back with a new cast. Sophie was chosen from 300,000 teenagers who auditioned from all over the world. She had to send in a video showing her singing, dancing, and acting skills. Sophie is no stranger to performing. She has been on Britain's Got Talent, America's Got Talent, and even represented Ireland at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2022. Still, she never thought she would get the part because she is from Northern Ireland, not America. When she got the call that she was chosen, she was shocked and overjoyed.

At first, the movie makers thought about letting Sophie use her Northern Irish accent for her character, Brooklyn. Later, they decided Brooklyn would be Irish-American, so Sophie worked with a dialect coach to get the accent just right. She said it was not too difficult because she has always enjoyed copying voices from TV shows. The news came just before her GCSE exams, and Sophie was so excited she cried and even lost her voice for a week. She had to keep the news a secret from her friends because of a non-disclosure agreement, which was very hard for her. Sophie said she felt like a regular Irish girl, and suddenly she was flying to Los Angeles for a screen test in a Disney movie. Her life changed overnight.

Now, Sophie is in Cape Town, South Africa, where she will spend the next four months preparing for filming. Her days are busy, starting at seven in the morning and filled with dance rehearsals, singing practice, acting lessons, costume fittings, and even guitar lessons. She enjoys every moment, especially the hair and makeup trials. Sophie has already met her fellow Cheetah Girls: Leah Sava Jeffries, Carmen Sanchez, and Kaileen Chang. In the new movie, the girls travel to Africa to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary, where they discover their talents and become the new Cheetah Girls. Sophie plays Brooklyn, a determined and ambitious girl from a musical family who dreams of becoming a star. Sophie says she feels a strong connection to her character because they are both hardworking and supportive of their friends.

Besides acting, Sophie has also received four offers from major music labels. She is putting those conversations on hold while she films the movie, but she is excited about her future in music.
