Price increase coming to bus fares in Cornwall

Bus passengers in Cornwall will soon be facing increases in some fares starting this Sunday. The price hikes are attributed to rises in inflation and operating costs, as stated by Transport for Cornwall. The adjustments in prices will vary, with some fares going up by 20p to £16, while certain fares for transport in and around the county, such as adult single tickets in bands two to five, will remain unchanged. Transport for Cornwall explained that they have been subsidizing these fares since the introduction of the Bus Fares Pilot in April 2022, allowing passengers to save millions of pounds. However, due to inflation and operating costs, there will now be a small change in the price of some fares. Additionally, bus operators are collaborating with Cornwall Council and the Department for Transport to limit all single bus tickets at £2 until 31 December 2024. As of this Sunday, an adult band one single fare will be increasing from £1. 60 to £2. 00, and a return fare will be changing from £2. 40 to £3. 50. The Cornwall fare plan will not be affected in terms of adult, child, or family tickets, but town fares will see an increase to a maximum of £56 for an adult town month ticket. It's important to note that children under five will still be eligible for free travel under the new amendments.
