Dolly Parton's Magical Books Spark Imagination for 1,000 Manx Kids

Dolly Parton, the well-known country singer, has made a big difference in the lives of children on the Isle of Man through her Imagination Library. This program, which started in Douglas at Christmas, sends a free book every month to each registered child until they turn five years old. Since the launch, more than 1,000 children on the island have received books, and the program has now spread to most of the island's parishes. The Imagination Library was created by Dolly Parton in 1995 as a tribute to her father, who could not read or write. She wanted to make sure that other children would have the chance to learn to read and enjoy books.

Dolly Parton's idea was to help children in her home county in Tennessee, but the program grew much bigger than she expected. Now, it reaches more than three million children around the world every month. On the Isle of Man, the program has already delivered more than 3,500 books to children since Christmas. Babies born at the Jane Crookall Maternity Unit automatically receive a book, and many families have signed up since the program began. Some children have already turned five and graduated from the program, but there are still hundreds of children receiving books each month.

The Imagination Library has expanded to many towns on the Isle of Man, including Andreas, Ballaugh, Bride, Jurby, Lezayre, Maughold, Patrick, Marown, Port Erin, Port St Mary, Arbory, Rushen, Santon, Michael, and Peel. Ramsey is the next town hoping to join, with a crowdfunding campaign underway. Organizers and families feel proud to be part of Dolly Parton's legacy, helping children develop a love for reading and giving them a great start in life. The program has brought the community together and made a lasting impact on the island.
