From £5K Mum Loan to Fashion Empire: The Couture Club's Stylish Rise
Ross Worswick had always wanted to work in the fashion industry. After returning home from filming a reality TV show, he decided it was the perfect time to try and make his dream come true. He talked to his mother, Judith, about his idea to start a clothing brand. Even though Ross did not have much money, his mother believed in him completely. She gave him a loan of £5,000, which was all the money she had saved up. With this money, Ross and his friend Scott Shashua started The Couture Club in 2015. They began by designing a single t-shirt in three colors: black, white, and khaki. Ross and Scott did everything themselves, from printing labels to packing orders and answering customer questions.
The business started in a very simple way, but Ross and Scott were determined to make it work. On their first day, they sold £500 worth of t-shirts. They promoted their brand by asking friends to retweet their posts on Twitter. Over the years, The Couture Club grew bigger and bigger. Today, the company has its headquarters in Manchester and employs more than 50 people. They have expanded their range to include women’s and children’s clothing, as well as shoes. The company now has four stores, including a flagship store in the Trafford Centre in Manchester. Their clothes have been worn by celebrities like influencer Molly Mae-Hague and footballer Lamine Yamal. Ross even modeled some of the clothes himself when the company was just starting out.
Ross says that the journey has not always been easy. There were tough times, but he learned a lot from his mistakes. He believes that these challenges helped him become a better leader. Ross is proud of how much the company has grown and changed over the years. He advises anyone who wants to start a business to be true to themselves and make sure their brand is authentic. Ross will never forget that his mother’s support helped him start his business. He says his mum has always been his biggest cheerleader, and he is very grateful for her belief in him. Ross believes that having support from loved ones and believing in yourself are key to starting something new and successful.
