Ex-Bus Boss Revives History with 60+ Vintage Rides at New Museum

Peter Newman, an 86-year-old retired bus company owner from Essex, has opened a unique museum dedicated to his lifelong passion for buses. After selling his company, Ensignbus, to FirstGroup in 2023, Peter decided to keep more than 60 of his vintage buses instead of letting them sit unused. Peter claims that if you see a bus in a movie, there is a good chance it is one of his. He named the museum Zero2 after the callsign he used when he worked as an operator at London Pride Sightseeing, where he gave tourists open-top bus tours of London. Peter wants the buses to be more than just museum pieces; he wants them to be used and enjoyed by people today.

Chris Moore, who worked as an engineer at Ensignbus for nearly 20 years, is also involved with the museum. Chris hopes that young people will become interested in the history and maintenance of these vintage buses. He believes it is important for the younger generation to get involved so that the buses can continue to be cared for and appreciated in the future. Without new people to drive, maintain, and visit the buses, Chris worries that the tradition could fade away.
