Seafront Book Swaps Turn Sunderland into a Coastal Reading Wonderland

Four Little Libraries, which are small wooden bookcases painted in bright colors and decorated with wave designs, have been placed in popular spots by the sea. These bookcases look like tiny houses, complete with pitched roofs and glass doors. The launch of the Little Libraries is connected to a larger event: 2026 will be the National Year of Reading in the UK. This is a nationwide effort to encourage more people to discover the joy of reading. To celebrate, there will be a 'Look For the Book' treasure hunt between Roker and Seaburn on October 3. Books will be hidden along the route, and anyone who finds one can keep it. This event is designed to make reading fun and exciting, especially for families and children. The Little Libraries are already having an impact. People are stopping to browse the shelves, pick out books, and even leave their own books for others. The project is helping to give old books a new life and making reading a regular part of life by the sea.
