Noddy Holder Ditches Christmas Restaurants to Dodge His Festive Hit

Noddy Holder, the well-known frontman of the British rock band Slade, has a unique reason for avoiding restaurants on Christmas Day. According to his wife, Suzan Holder, the couple finds it uncomfortable to dine out during the holidays because Noddy's famous song, 'Merry Xmas Everybody,' is played so often. Suzan explained that whenever the song comes on in a restaurant, everyone turns to look at Noddy, making the experience a bit awkward for them. This festive hit, first released in December 1973 by the Wolverhampton-based band, has become a staple of Christmas playlists across the UK and regularly returns to the singles chart each year as the holiday season approaches.

Suzan shared that Noddy has a special way of starting Christmas morning. He wakes her up by singing his iconic line, 'It's Christmas! ' from the song. She clarified that while many people might think he sings it all the time, he actually reserves it just for Christmas morning. Suzan believes it is perfectly acceptable for him to do so, since he is the one who made the phrase famous. In addition to their musical traditions, Noddy is known for preparing a delicious Christmas dinner. Suzan described his cooking as 'rather mean,' especially his roast potatoes, which she says are so good they have to be tasted to be believed.

Noddy Holder led Slade for 26 years before stepping down in 1992. The band is often listed among the most successful British groups of the 1970s, with other popular songs like 'Cum On Feel The Noize' and 'Coz I Luv You. ' Now 79 years old and living in Cheshire, Noddy faced a serious health challenge in 2018 when he was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and given only six months to live. Thanks to treatment at The Christie hospital in Manchester, he recovered and has since returned to performing. Last December, Noddy revealed that he had started playing music again, this time with a 10-piece boogie jazz band. Despite the challenges, Noddy and Suzan continue to enjoy their Christmas traditions, even if it means skipping restaurants to avoid the spotlight that comes with his enduring holiday hit.
