BTS tell K-pop fans: Don't wave us off at military bases

Four members of the globally recognized K-pop group BTS have requested their fans, affectionately known as the ARMY, not to gather at military bases when they commence their compulsory military service. The band's label, Big Hit Music, announced that RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook are set to enlist soon, with some speculations suggesting it could be as early as next week.

The quartet released a video message, in which RM expressed concern that their fans' presence could potentially disrupt other enlistees and their families. Three senior members of the band, including the eldest, Jin, have already begun their military service since last December. Their enlistment had drawn large crowds of fans to the military bases to bid them farewell. In South Korea, due to the ongoing technical war with North Korea, nearly all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military for 18 months before they turn 28.

In the video, RM requested fans to refrain from visiting the military bases on their enlistment day. Earlier, Big Hit Music had also urged fans to avoid visiting the bases on the day of the band members' enlistment, stating there would be no separate official events. The label requested fans to extend their warm wishes and support to RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The band's sudden announcement of a hiatus last year, shortly after releasing a new album, had taken their fans by surprise. However, they have assured their fans of a reunion in 2025.
