Young artists urged to submit work for exhibition
The Ferens Art Gallery in Hull is inviting young people to take part in its annual Young Artist Open exhibition, which will be held later this year. This event, which was previously known as the Junior Open, has been running since 2004 and is a popular opportunity for young artists to display their work. Each year, the exhibition features between 300 and 700 pieces of art created by children and teenagers from the local area. The gallery is looking for a wide range of artwork, including paintings, drawings, pastels, collages, and prints.
Young artists who are 15 years old or younger are encouraged to submit their work. The deadline for entries is Sunday 13 July. The exhibition itself will run from 10 October to 11 January 2026, giving plenty of time for visitors to come and see the art on display. There are prizes available for the best entries in three different age categories: six and under, seven to 11, and 12 to 15. This means that children of all ages have a chance to be recognized for their creativity and talent.
Councillor Rob Pritchard, who supports the event, described it as a wonderful initiative for nurturing the artists of the future. Madeline Brace, an exhibitions assistant at the Ferens Art Gallery, said that every year she is impressed by the creativity and passion shown by Hull's young people. Entry forms for the exhibition can be picked up at the gallery or downloaded from its website. The event is managed by Hull City Council, which hopes that many young artists will take this opportunity to share their work with the community and possibly win a prize. The exhibition is a great way for young people to express themselves and gain confidence in their artistic abilities.
