John Lennon's Rare Beatles Sketches Unveiled at Liverpool Museum
A set of rare drawings created by John Lennon, one of the members of The Beatles, has gone on display at the Liverpool Beatles Museum. These drawings were discovered by Joseph O'Donnell, a collector from Tynemouth, who found them at an auction in London. O'Donnell, who is a big fan of The Beatles, decided to buy the drawings when he noticed that they were not getting much attention at the auction. He managed to purchase them at a reasonable price and wanted to share them with other fans before eventually selling them. The drawings are special because Lennon worked on them with American artist Stephen Verona in the 1960s.
The artwork was originally created for a promotional film to go along with The Beatles' hit song I Feel Fine. Lennon and Verona met by chance in a London nightclub and later worked together at Verona's apartment in Manhattan. They used colored markers to make the drawings, which feature pop art images and words from the song. In total, there were 240 drawings, which were sold at Christie's auction house for more than $58,000 in 2000. After the auction, the collection was split up, but O'Donnell was able to bring ten of the drawings together again for the museum display.
The drawings on display include phrases like 'baby says she's mine' and 'in love with her,' as well as individual artworks for the words 'and' and 'I. ' O'Donnell explained that each drawing features a different word from the song, and he was able to piece them together to form a complete sentence. He believes that The Beatles will always be popular and that their music will never go out of style. The drawings are now being shown at the Liverpool Beatles Museum on Mathew Street, where they will remain for several months. Fans of The Beatles have the chance to see these unique pieces of art and learn more about the band's history and creativity.
