Hong Kong’s Ocean Park posts HK$118.5 million surplus after years of running deficits

Hong Kong's renowned tourist attraction, Ocean Park, has reported a surplus of HK$118. 5 million (US$15. 18 million) for its financial year. This is a significant turnaround from the previous years when the park was operating at a loss. The park's financial recovery is largely attributed to the full reopening of the city's borders in February, following the cessation of the pandemic.

During the 12-month period that ended on June 30, Ocean Park and Water World saw an influx of 2. 4 million visitors. This represents a 45 per cent increase compared to the previous financial year. The park's revenue also experienced a substantial surge of 54 per cent, year on year, escalating from HK$545. 1 million to HK$839. 1 million. Additionally, the revenue per capita witnessed a 6 per cent rise.

Paulo Pong Kin-yee, the chairman of Ocean Park, credited the improved business performance to the reopening of the city's borders and the park's innovative strategies. He acknowledged that the path ahead will remain challenging due to volatile global economic conditions and intense competition in the tourism market. However, he assured that they will continue to leverage their strengths as they strive for long-term sustainability under the future strategy for Ocean Park.
