EastEnders actor reopens historic film facility

Rudolph Walker, a well-known actor from the TV show EastEnders, recently helped celebrate the 100th anniversary of Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire by reopening three renovated sound stages. These sound stages are special rooms where famous movies and TV shows are filmed. Walker, who has worked at Elstree Studios for many years, cut a ceremonial red ribbon to mark the reopening. He wore white trousers, a white shirt, and a teal jacket, and stood in a dark room with other people who were excited about the event.

Elstree Studios has a long history of making blockbuster movies and popular TV series. It first opened in 1925 when a Hollywood producer and a British film producer joined forces. Over the years, Elstree has been the filming location for movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Superman IV, as well as the Netflix series The Crown. The studios are now owned by Hertsmere Borough Council. The newly reopened sound stages are called Stages 7, 8, and 9, and together they make up more than 20,000 square feet of space. Stage 7 has hosted productions such as Indiana Jones and The Crown, while Stage 8 is famous for the throne room scene with Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Stage 9 is where Jack Nicholson filmed his iconic door-axing scene in The Shining.

Rebecca Hawkes, the head of Elstree Studios, said that these stages have been home to some of the most famous creations in film and TV history. She believes that reopening them will help continue the studio's legacy. The council recently invested £1. 4 million to renovate the underground car park beneath the stages and to remove hazardous materials like asbestos. They also fixed issues with the concrete to make the studios safer. Elstree Studios has signed an agreement with the MBS Group, the world's largest studio operator, to help manage the facility. Jeremy Newmark, the leader of the council, said that reopening the stages is perfect timing for the studio's 100th anniversary. He said that Elstree Studios has produced films and shows that have touched millions of lives around the world, all from Borehamwood.
