Saving Burns' Legendary Farm: Auld Lang Syne's Historic Home Revival!

A group of campaigners is working to save Ellisland Farm, the historic site where the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns wrote some of his most celebrated works, including 'Auld Lang Syne. ' Located north of Dumfries, the farm is in need of major repairs after years of neglect, dampness, and structural problems. The Robert Burns Ellisland Trust, which is leading the effort, hopes to raise £12 million to restore the farm and transform it into a world-class cultural destination that will attract visitors from around the globe.

The campaign was launched alongside the premiere of a specially-commissioned film that highlights the farm's significance in Scottish history and culture. The Trust says that Ellisland Farm has the potential to become a national landmark and a source of inspiration for generations to come. Their plans include recreating the farm as it was during Burns' time, building a museum, providing visitor accommodation, and establishing a 'centre for song' to celebrate Burns' musical legacy.

Project director Joan McAlpine explained that extensive research and consultation have been carried out to understand what the farm needs and how it can be made sustainable. The goal is not only to preserve the heritage of the site but also to generate income that will support its upkeep and contribute to the local economy. Last year, the Trust secured nearly £500,000 to develop their plans further. If successful, the project could create dozens of jobs and attract around 17,000 visitors each year. The campaign is seeking support from people in Scotland and around the world to ensure the future of Ellisland Farm, the birthplace of 'Auld Lang Syne,' which is sung every New Year's Eve and remains one of Burns' most enduring works.
