Somerset's Magical Moon, Artful Cows, and Woodland Wonders Unveiled

Somerset has been captured in a series of stunning photographs this week, showcasing the county's natural beauty, artistic talent, and vibrant community life. One of the highlights is a picture of the crescent moon rising over the hills of Crowcombe, with the sky glowing in shades of red, orange, and yellow as the sun sets. Although the sun itself is hidden, its colors light up the landscape. Across Somerset, art has been celebrated in many forms. In Victoria Park, Frome, a Norway maple tree that was felled due to disease has been transformed into a hand-carved table and bench. The carvings feature woodland animals such as badgers, bats, foxes, and squirrels, turning the tree into a lasting piece of nature-inspired art. The wood will also be used for play equipment, and the shavings will help mulch the town's green spaces during winter.

At Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, artist Jackie Spurrier is exhibiting 14 paintings of highland cows. Jackie, who is known for her cheerful personality and distinctive style, is supporting the hospital's 'Art for Life' charity by donating commissions from any sales. The exhibition runs until January 2026, giving visitors plenty of time to enjoy her work. Meanwhile, Bridgwater Arts Centre has reopened its gallery with a nature photography exhibition by Marko Dutka, as part of Somerset Art Weeks Open Studios 2025. This event celebrates creativity and artistic talent throughout the county, and Dutka's photos will be on display until Saturday.
