Yorkshire’s Hotflash: Menopause, Miniatures, and Movie Magic!

Screenwriter Jan Birley from East Yorkshire is bringing a new film to life that celebrates the resilience of women and the beauty of Yorkshire. With her silver hair pulled back and a cheerful smile, Jan stands beside the miniature cricket ground at Bondville Model Village, one of the filming locations for her upcoming movie. The film, titled 'Hotflash,' will be shot in two seaside villages in East Yorkshire, including scenes at the Flamborough Women's Institute hall and the Bondville Model Village in Sewerby. The story follows Geri, a single mother in her forties who is navigating the challenges of menopause while trying to rebuild her life after a marriage ends. Despite the difficulties, Geri becomes an accidental entrepreneur and finds success, making the film a celebration of older women and their ability to triumph over adversity.

Jan Birley says her upbringing in Yorkshire inspired her to write the film, as she believes it is a beautiful place to live and wants to showcase its charm on the big screen. Rachel Hill, the owner of Bondville Model Village, is excited that her 1/12th scale harbor, complete with a red and white striped lighthouse and castle walls, will be featured in the movie. Rachel relates to the film's message, sharing that she made a bold decision in her forties to buy the model village and has no regrets. She feels the story resonates with her own experiences and hopes it will inspire others to take risks and embrace new opportunities, regardless of age.

The cast of 'Hotflash' includes well-known actors such as Gaynor Faye, who has appeared in Coronation Street and Emmerdale, and James Atherton, a former Hollyoaks actor.
