The cast and crew gathered in Shieldinch to film their final scenes, marking the end of an era for the long-running soap opera. Stephen Purdon, who played the well-known character Shellsuit Bob O'Hara, described the last day as emotional and surreal. He started on the show at just 19 years old and is now 43, making him the longest-serving cast member. Purdon shared that he has many great memories from his time on River City and feels lucky to have worked with such a close-knit team for so long.

Sally Howitt, who played Scarlett O'Hara, also reflected on her journey with the show. She joined River City 23 years ago, expecting to stay for only a month, but her role grew and she became a fan favorite. Sally said that Scarlett was a fun character to play, known for her bold outfits and loud personality. Over the years, Scarlett's character changed a lot—she had more children, more husbands, and her style became more modest. Sally said that playing Scarlett was a big part of her life and that she will always carry a bit of Scarlett with her. On her last day, she even recreated her first pose from when she started on the show.

Martin McCardie, the executive producer, has worked in many roles on River City, including as a writer and actor. He said it was very sad to say goodbye to the show and the people he worked with. He called it an honor to lead such a special group. The final scenes filmed will be shown at the end of August, followed by a special documentary about the show's 24-year history. Sanjeev Kohli, who played AJ Jandhu, said he was disappointed the show was ending. He appreciated how River City gave opportunities to young actors and allowed Scottish voices and slang to be heard on TV.

Fans and cast members tried to save the show, even protesting outside the Scottish Parliament with signs that said 'save River City. ' However, the BBC decided to end the show because fewer people were watching long-running series. Instead, they plan to focus on new drama productions set in Scotland, including three new series and several returning favorites.
