6-Year-Old's Heartwarming Drawing Shines on Big Issue Easter Cover

April is a six-year-old girl from Northampton who loves to draw. She has long brown hair and often wears her favorite pink dress. Recently, April entered a drawing competition for the Big Issue magazine. The theme of the competition was peace, and children from all over sent in their artwork. April drew a picture of a smiling child sleeping peacefully in a bed, with the words 'peace is a safe bed to sleep in' written on it. She feels very lucky to have her own safe bed at home, and she wanted to show how important that is.

The competition was judged by Axel Scheffler, the famous illustrator of The Gruffalo. He had to look at hundreds of entries, but he chose April's drawing to be on the cover of the Easter edition of the Big Issue. The Big Issue is a magazine that helps people who are experiencing homelessness. After April finished her drawing, her dad, Nick, explained to her that not everyone has a safe place to sleep. He told her that the Big Issue supports people who might not have a bed at all. April was surprised and said it must be scary for people who have to sleep outside. She realized how lucky she is to have a safe bed every night.

Axel Scheffler said he was impressed by all the entries, but he especially liked how April's drawing showed what peace means to her.
