Electric car driver turned away from hospital car park

A father driving an electric vehicle (EV) was recently turned away from a hospital car park in Liverpool. Paul Freeman-Powell, who was taking his child to Alder Hey hospital, was instructed to park his EV next to nearby grass because he was told that it 'could explode. ' The hospital has explained that it has temporarily restricted the parking of electric vehicles in one of its smaller car parks while it upgrades its fire sprinkler system. However, industry experts have contested this decision, pointing to research that indicates petrol cars are considerably more likely to catch fire than EVs. Despite the restriction, the hospital has assured that electric vehicles are still able to park in its main car park and has 14 spaces with EV charging points available.
