From Hull to Hollywood: Bafta Star Inspires Future Actors at Old School

Hollywood actor Robert Aramayo is inspiring students at his old school, Malet Lambert in Hull, after being nominated for two Bafta Film Awards this month. The 33-year-old actor, who grew up in Hull, is up for the leading actor award for his role in the drama I Swear, as well as the EE Rising Star award. Teachers and students at Malet Lambert say that Robert is a fantastic role model, showing that with hard work and dedication, anyone can achieve their dreams.

Lucy Riley, the head of drama at Malet Lambert, remembers Robert as a student who was always passionate about acting. She says that his success is not just about talent, but also about his strong work ethic. Lucy hopes to update Robert's photo on the school's wall of fame to show him as a Bafta winner. She points out that Robert's journey proves that students from Hull can make it big in the world of film and television.

Laura Betts, another drama teacher who taught Robert, says she is incredibly proud to have played a part in his development. She recalls how Robert was always involved in school productions and that his family supported his love for the arts. Jodie Mulliah, another drama teacher, says that Robert's achievements have raised ambitions across the school. Students now believe that if they set their minds to something, they have a real chance of succeeding.

Year 10 students at Malet Lambert have been inspired by Robert's story. Izzy said she didn't know Robert was from Hull until recently, and now she feels proud of her school. Parker added that Robert's success shows you don't have to go to a special drama school to become an actor. Millie, who has seen I Swear, praised Robert for playing his character in a way that spreads awareness about Tourette's syndrome without being offensive.

Robert also developed his acting skills at Hull Truck Theatre, joining the youth theatre at age 10 and performing in plays like Animal Farm and Kes. Mark Babych, the artistic director at Hull Truck, says that Robert is an incredible talent and that everyone at the theatre is proud of him. The EE Rising Star Award is the only Bafta voted for by the public, and both Hull Truck and Malet Lambert are encouraging people to support Robert.

Whether or not he wins, teachers and students hope that Robert's journey from Hull to Hollywood will inspire more young people to follow their dreams. His story shows that with passion, hard work, and support, anything is possible.
