Kaiser Chiefs Eye Luton Anthem to Rival Coldplay's Big Hit

The Kaiser Chiefs, a well-known British band, are preparing to perform in Luton for a special concert. Their lead singer, Ricky Wilson, recently made some light-hearted comments about the town and its airport. He joked that Coldplay, another famous band, made things difficult for other bands by writing a song about Luton when they played at Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2024. Ricky said that maybe he could sing 'Luton, Luton, Luton' instead of their hit song 'Ruby,' but then fans would miss out on hearing 'Ruby. '

Ricky also mentioned that he would consider writing a song for Luton if the airport lowered its drop-off charges. He explained that he had to pay ten pounds just to drop his wife off for two minutes at the airport. In response, London Luton Airport pointed out that he could have parked for free for up to two hours in their long-stay car park. They joked that next time, Ricky would probably choose the right parking lot.

The Kaiser Chiefs are set to perform at Stockwood Park in Luton on September 12, as part of the town's 150th anniversary celebrations. The concert will feature other bands like The Feeling and The Hoosiers, as well as local acts such as JW Paris and Olivia Lynn. Radio 1 presenters and University of Bedfordshire alumni Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom will also DJ at the event. Ricky shared that the band's guitarist studied at the University of Bedfordshire and knows Luton well. He also said he wants to try the local food, especially chicken from Chicken George, which his wife says is the best in the country. Ricky promised the audience that the Kaiser Chiefs would not let them down.
