US artificial intelligence leader OpenAI applies for GPT-6, GPT-7 trademarks in China
OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) company based in the United States, has made significant strides with its ChatGPT AI application. The company is now seeking to further its advancements by applying for trademarks for 'GPT-6' and 'GPT-7' in China.
The company has submitted two separate applications for each trademark. The first application falls under class 9, which pertains to scientific apparatus and research instruments. The second application is categorized under class 42, which relates to technological services and design. These applications are currently under review by the Trademark Office of the China National Intellectual Property Administration.
OpenAI, a major entity backed by Microsoft and incorporated in San Francisco, California, does not currently offer any services in China, including Hong Kong. The company has not yet responded to a request for comment on the trademark applications, which was sent outside of business hours. OpenAI has also previously filed for 'GPT-4' and 'Whisper' trademarks in April, and 'GPT-5' in July, but none of these applications have received final approval.
