Social media platform X suffers global outages
Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, experienced worldwide outages lasting slightly over an hour on Thursday. Downdetector. com, a site that monitors website outages by gathering status reports, indicated that over 47,000 US users encountered access difficulties with X and X Pro. Users in the UK and Asia also faced issues, unable to view posts on the site and instead greeted with a message stating 'Welcome to X! '.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, has been requested to comment on the situation. Musk purchased Twitter for a substantial sum of $44bn (£35bn) in the previous year. The hashtag #TwitterDown began trending shortly after reports of the outages surfaced. However, the outage was brief, with users regaining access to the platform after just over an hour.
Since Musk's acquisition of the platform, it has been grappling with a decline in advertising revenue. He has been accused of permitting antisemitic posts alongside advertising. In response, the company has initiated a lawsuit against a left-leaning advocacy group, Media Matters for America, which made the accusation. Last month, Elon Musk lambasted advertisers that abandoned X, asserting that they would be the downfall of the social media platform. The company has also been implicated in the dissemination of disinformation, with the European Union formally declaring its suspicion that X is in violation of its regulations concerning the countering of illegal content and disinformation.
