Local Band's Shock: Main Stage Kendal Calling Gig Felt Like a Dream!

The Silver Bars, an indie rock band from Barrow, have been regular performers at Kendal Calling festival for several years, but always on smaller stages. This year, they received an email inviting them to play the opening slot on the main stage, which left them in disbelief. The band initially thought the offer was a scam because the email contained a spelling mistake. Dylan Grafton, the vocalist, said he was suspicious because there were two 'n's' in 'main stage,' making him think someone was playing a trick on them.

Growing up in Cumbria, the band members have always considered Kendal Calling a special event. Grafton described the festival as 'the Wainwright of festivals,' referencing the famous Lake District peaks. For many teenagers in Cumbria, Kendal Calling is the first festival they attend, making it a significant milestone for local musicians. Drummer Matthew Grosvenor explained that playing at the festival has meant a lot to the band, as it represents the pinnacle of achievement in their county.

This year marks the fifth time The Silver Bars will perform at Kendal Calling, but it is their first time on the main stage. The band has worked hard to reach this point, balancing their music careers with full-time jobs. Grafton said it has taken a lot of effort from everyone involved, not just in making music but also in managing the band. The group is excited about the opportunity and feels that their hard work is finally paying off. They hope their performance on the main stage will help them gain a larger following and make their music more widely known.
