A new animated Christmas film called Nollaí is set to premiere next month, and it will be available in both Irish and Welsh languages. The movie tells the story of a young deer named Nollaí who embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Produced by Taunt Studios in Belfast, Nollaí will make its debut on December 14. The Irish version will be shown on TG4 and Cúla4, while the Welsh version will air on S4C. The story begins on a wintry night ten years ago, when Nollaí is discovered by a human family at a stone circle. As the plot unfolds, it is revealed that Nollaí could be the last living Megaloceros giganteus, a species of giant deer that is now extinct. This discovery makes Nollaí's journey even more meaningful, as he learns about his unique place in the world. The film features characters like Sadhbh, a young girl with ginger hair, and her father Daid, who join Nollaí on his adventure. Together, they travel through beautiful landscapes and face challenges that help them grow closer as friends and family.

The production of Nollaí brought together creative talent from both Ireland and Wales. Máire Uí Choisdealbha, TG4's commissioning editor, said the collaboration resulted in a wonderful blend of storytelling and culture. She believes the film will enchant families for years to come. The Welsh version features actors such as Osian Snelson as Nollaí, Marged Llwyd as Siân, and Dion Davies as Daid. Sioned Geraint, S4C's content commissioner for children and learners, expressed her excitement about the project, calling it beautiful and endearing. Karen Kirby from BBC Northern Ireland said the story is universal and can be enjoyed in many languages. Nollaí will air on S4C and BBC iPlayer on December 14 at 5:05 pm, and the English version will be shown on December 21 at 4:10 pm on BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer.
