Northampton Film Fest Returns to Celebrate Rebels, Mavericks & Creative Changemakers!

The Northampton Film Festival is an exciting event that brings together filmmakers and movie lovers to celebrate creativity and originality. This year, the festival took place from February 28 to March 8, and it was the fifth time the event was held. The festival is known for supporting rebels, mavericks, and changemakers—people who think differently and want to make a difference through their films. Over the course of the festival, 80 films were shown at five different venues across Northampton. These films included a wide range of stories, from documentaries to animations, and showcased both new and experienced filmmakers.

Becky Carrier, the director of the festival, explained that 50 of the films were selected for the final awards. She was impressed by the variety of storytelling and the talent on display. One of the winners was Helen Tither, who directed a documentary called The Corinthians: We Were The Champions. Helen said the festival truly lived up to its promise of celebrating rebels and creative people. She was thrilled to win an award, especially since the competition was so strong. Another winner, Steff Lee from Kettering, directed an animated film called Of All The Things. She was overjoyed to win the Best of Northants animation prize and said it was extra special to be recognized in her home county.

The festival ended with a big celebration at the Royal & Derngate, where all the winners were invited on stage. They smiled for the cameras, some holding clapper boards as their prizes. The atmosphere was full of excitement and pride. Becky Carrier said the festival was a huge success and thanked all the filmmakers for their hard work and creativity. She also mentioned that planning for next year’s festival has already begun, with hopes to make it even better. The event was organized with the help of 40 young people from the Young Programmers scheme, showing that Northampton is a place full of creativity, culture, and ambition. The Northampton Film Festival is a wonderful opportunity for filmmakers to share their stories and be recognized for their unique voices.
