EU Greenlights $110B Paramount-Warner Bros Merger, US Legal Drama Unfolds

Paramount and Warner Bros Discovery, two of the biggest names in the movie and television industry, are planning to merge in a deal worth $110 billion. This merger would create one of the largest media companies in the world. Recently, the European Commission, which is the main regulator for the European Union, approved the merger. However, they only agreed after Paramount promised to end a major film distribution partnership with Universal Pictures in Europe. Paramount has 13 months to end this deal and cannot start a similar partnership for the next 10 years. Regulators in Europe were worried that if Paramount and Warner Bros worked together with Universal, they would have too much control over which movies are shown in cinemas. They are worried that the new company would have too much power and could lower wages or reduce jobs for writers.
